Vaping is the act of inhaling an aerosol from an electronic cigarette, or vape, into the lungs. Vapes are battery-powered devices that heat a liquid to create an aerosol that contains nicotine, flavoring, and other chemicals.


Chemicals....Contains nicotine, flavoring, and more than 30 other chemicals, including carcinogens, chemicals that cause lung disease, and heavy metals.


Health Effects....Can cause irritability, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and difficulty concentrating. Vaping cam also harm the parts of the brain that control attention, earning, mood and impulse control.


Safety....No tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, are safe, especially for children, teens, and young adults.


Factors that influence youth vaping.... E-cigarette marketing, the availability of flavored products, social influences, and the effects of nicotine.


While vaping is likely less harmful than smoking, it's still harmful. Some E-cigarettes can also be used to deliver cannabis and other drugs.


In 2024 E-cigarettes were the most commonly used tobacco product among middle and high school students in the United States.


1.63 million (5.9%) of students currently used E-cigarettes. This includes 410,000 (3.5%) middle school students and 1.21 million (7.8%) high school students.
